Rackula

Before lifting a heavy four-unit storage server or rewiring a cramped network closet, you can map every unit of cabinet space in Rackula, an interactive drag-and-drop rack layout designer and capacity planner. Instead of staring at generic grey rectangles in a spreadsheet, you pull switches, routers, patch panels, UPS battery banks, and rackmount chassis from a hardware catalog populated with authentic front and rear faceplates from the NetBox device library. Equipment snaps cleanly to standard EIA-310 rack unit boundaries, while half-width gear and mini PCs nest inside one-unit carrier shelves and mounting brackets. Audiovisual technicians can group bayed cabinets side by side to plan amplifier racks, signal processor chains, and patch bays across multi-rack installations. Network engineers and data center operators can rearrange hardware with full undo and redo history, attach custom device graphics, and export crisp diagrams as PNG, SVG, or PDF files for runbooks and change control tickets. Sharing a proposed cabinet topology with a colleague in the field takes seconds using an encoded URL or a scannable QR code that opens on mobile browsers. Server-side persistence stores your rack definitions as portable YAML files and supports optional local accounts or OpenID Connect single sign-on for shared infrastructure teams. Running on a dedicated VPS on RepoCloud with guaranteed CPU, RAM, and SSD, full root SSH access, and a browser serial console. MIT licensed.

Benefits

  • Photorealistic NetBox Hardware Faceplate Library
  • Visualize server cabinets with accurate front and rear equipment elevation graphics sourced from the NetBox devicetype-library or upload custom device images for proprietary appliances.
  • EIA-310 Compliant Rack and Carrier Modeling
  • Enforce realistic whole-unit rail alignment up to 42U and beyond while mounting half-width appliances and compact nodes inside dedicated 1U carrier shelves and brackets.
  • Multi-Format Documentation and QR Sharing
  • Export publication-ready rack elevation diagrams in PNG, vector SVG, or PDF formats for change requests, or share layouts instantly via encoded URLs and QR codes.
  • Portable YAML Persistence and OIDC Auth
  • Synchronize rack layouts and custom asset folders on disk as human-readable NetBox-compatible YAML files protected by write-route API tokens, local accounts, or OpenID Connect.

Features

  • Drag-and-Drop Elevation Editor
  • Provides an interactive canvas with undo and redo history for placing, reordering, and inspecting rackmount equipment across customizable U heights.
  • Bayed Multi-Rack Grouping
  • Links adjacent server and audiovisual cabinets into unified bayed rack groups to model multi-cabinet colocation cages and studio signal chains.
  • NetBox Device Library Integration
  • Imports standardized hardware specifications and realistic chassis illustrations directly from the community NetBox devicetype-library catalog and YAML definitions.
  • PNG PDF and SVG Export
  • Renders high-resolution raster and vector rack diagrams alongside downloadable YAML layout bundles and scannable QR codes for mobile field reference.
  • API Persistence and SSO
  • Persists layouts across sessions through a dedicated REST API backend with configurable local authentication or OpenID Connect identity provider integration.
