Tela
Tela keeps a team's documentation as canonical markdown in a self-hosted wiki that AI agents read, search, and write alongside humans through a built-in MCP server. People edit together with live multi-cursor collaboration, threaded comments, backlinks, and full revision history, so every page shows who changed what and why. PostgreSQL full-text search works immediately, and adding an embedder unlocks semantic retrieval and grounded ask-your-docs answers that cite their sources. Connect Claude, Cursor, or another MCP client with a personal access token and the agent can search the wiki, draft and patch pages, answer comment threads, build spreadsheets with real formulas, and assemble presentation decks exportable to PDF and PPTX. Atlas, the built-in documentation engine, points at a git repository or Jira project and drafts cited wiki pages, then keeps them fresh as the sources change. Teams organize work into spaces, invite members by email, and flip any space public to publish a login-free blog with per-author home pages. Content syncs over WebDAV and exports to zip or PDF, and optional AI features run against your own endpoint or a bundled local Ollama profile, so nothing leaves your server unless you wire it up. Running on a dedicated VPS on RepoCloud with guaranteed CPU, RAM, and SSD, full root SSH access, and a browser serial console. AGPL-3.0 licensed.
Benefits
- Agents As First-Class Teammates
- A built-in MCP server at /api/mcp gives Claude, Cursor, and other agents permission-scoped tools to search, read, and write the same markdown pages your team edits in the browser.
- Markdown You Own Forever
- Page bodies are stored as canonical markdown in PostgreSQL with no proprietary block format, and the whole wiki syncs over WebDAV and exports to zip or PDF at any time.
- Live Editing, Real History
- Multiple authors edit the same page with live cursors while comments, backlinks, and a complete revision history track how every document evolved and who contributed each change.
- Docs That Update Themselves
- Atlas points at a git repository or Jira project, drafts cited wiki pages with coverage checks, and refreshes them as sources change, so documentation stops rotting after release day.
Features
- Built-In MCP Server
- Thirty-nine permission-scoped tools let agents search, fetch, create, patch, and comment on pages over streamable HTTP, authenticated by personal access tokens or OAuth.
- Live Collaborative Editor
- Milkdown editor with Yjs real-time multi-cursor editing, threaded comments, backlinks, and revision history, where the stored document is always plain markdown.
- Semantic Plus Full-Text Search
- Ranked PostgreSQL full-text search works out of the box; add an embedding provider for pgvector semantic retrieval and cited, answer-oriented research across pages and attachments.
- Atlas Documentation Engine
- Atlas generates and maintains wiki pages from git repositories and Jira projects, drafting cited content with coverage checks and refreshing pages as the sources evolve.
- Spaces, Blogs And Sync
- Organizations and spaces with email invites, optional public spaces that render as login-free blogs, WebDAV synchronization, and export to zip or PDF.
