LAN-Orangutan
Most home and office networks quietly accumulate dozens of devices nobody can name, and LAN Orangutan answers the basic questions about all of them: what is connected, what changed since yesterday, and what should not be there at all. It scans one or several networks with nmap and merges in the host ARP table, resolving MAC addresses, manufacturers, hostnames, and device types so a phone, printer, TV, and server each show up as themselves rather than as bare IP addresses. You label devices, file them into your own groups and locations, and attach notes that survive every rescan, turning a one-off scan into a maintained inventory. Snapshots freeze the network at a moment in time, and comparing two of them shows exactly which devices appeared, vanished, or moved to a new address. Mark the devices you expect, and the dashboard flags newcomers and missing hardware, with webhook notifications to Telegram, Discord, Slack, ntfy, or Home Assistant when something changes. Tailscale peers appear next to local devices, so the laptop on your tailnet and the printer downstairs live in the same list. Risky exposures such as Telnet or FTP get flagged, scans show live progress you can cancel, and a password you create on first open guards the whole dashboard. Running on a dedicated VPS on RepoCloud with guaranteed CPU, RAM, and SSD, full root SSH access, and a browser serial console. MIT licensed.
Benefits
- Know Every Connected Device
- nmap scans plus the host ARP table surface IPv4 and IPv6 devices with MAC addresses, manufacturers, and friendly names from reverse DNS, NetBIOS, and mDNS, including devices that never answer a probe.
- Catch Unexpected Devices Fast
- Mark the hardware you expect and get flagged when something new appears or a known device goes missing, with webhook alerts to Telegram, Discord, Slack, ntfy, or Home Assistant.
- An Inventory That Persists
- Labels, groups, locations, notes, renames, and device types you assign are kept across rescans, so the list stays curated instead of resetting to raw addresses after every scan.
- See Change Over Time
- Snapshots capture the whole network for later comparison, showing which devices appeared, vanished, or changed address, and the full inventory exports to CSV, JSON, or an HTML report.
Features
- nmap Auto-Discovery
- Scans one or more networks with nmap and merges ARP-table entries, resolving MAC addresses, vendors, and device types for everything found.
- Labels, Groups, Notes
- Assign names, groups, locations, and free-text notes that persist across scans, and override a device's detected type when you know better.
- Snapshots and Diffs
- Save a point-in-time snapshot and compare it with any later state to see arrivals, departures, and address changes at a glance.
- New-Device Alerts
- Expected-device tracking flags unknown arrivals and missing hardware, with webhook notifications to Telegram, Discord, Slack, ntfy, and Home Assistant.
- Tailscale Built In
- Connect or disconnect Tailscale from inside the app and discover tailnet peers alongside devices on your local networks.
- Dashboard, CLI, API
- A light and dark web dashboard on port 291, a full CLI with JSON output, and a token-protected REST API cover interactive and scripted use.
