Opik

When an AI agent goes wrong at step seven of twelve, Opik, an open-source LLM observability platform, shows the exact trace, tool call, and prompt behind it, then scores your fix against test datasets. Full trace trees capture every LLM call, retrieval step, and tool execution, and you can annotate traces and spans with feedback scores in the UI or through the SDK. Native integrations for OpenAI, Anthropic, LangChain, LlamaIndex, CrewAI, Google ADK, and DSPy, plus OpenTelemetry for any language with an OpenTelemetry SDK, feed traces in, or add the @track decorator to your own functions. Datasets and experiments compare prompt and model versions, scored by LLM-as-a-judge metrics for hallucination, moderation, and RAG relevance, with a PyTest integration to run evaluations in CI. A Prompt Playground tests prompts across models, and the Agent Optimizer SDK helps improve prompts and agents. Production dashboards track feedback scores, trace counts, and token usage, online evaluation rules score live traces, and optional guardrails add safety checks. An MCP server lets Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code Copilot, Codex, or opencode read traces and run evaluations from chat. Run it yourself with the ./opik.sh script on Docker Compose, or a Helm chart on Kubernetes, so trace data stays in your infrastructure. Running on a dedicated VPS on RepoCloud with guaranteed CPU, RAM, and SSD, full root SSH access, and a browser serial console. Apache-2.0 licensed.

Benefits

  • Trace every step of an agent
  • Full trace trees record nested LLM calls, retrieval steps, and tool executions with their inputs, outputs, and feedback scores, so you can locate exactly which step of a multi-step agent failed.
  • Evaluate before you ship
  • Run datasets and experiments with LLM-as-a-judge metrics for hallucination, moderation, and RAG quality, and wire the same evaluations into CI with the PyTest integration to catch regressions on every commit.
  • Keep trace data in your infrastructure
  • Self-host the full platform, backend included, with Docker Compose or a Helm chart, so prompts and outputs never leave your environment and no enterprise license is required.
  • Monitor production quality continuously
  • Dashboards chart feedback scores, trace counts, and token usage over time, and online evaluation rules apply LLM-as-a-judge scoring to live traces to surface production problems early.

Features

  • Agent tracing and annotation
  • Capture multi-step traces covering LLM calls, retrieval, and tool executions, log conversations, and annotate traces and spans with feedback scores from the UI or the SDK.
  • Datasets and experiments
  • Build datasets, run experiments across prompts and models, and score outputs with pre-built heuristic metrics, LLM-as-a-judge metrics, or your own custom Python metrics.
  • Prompt Playground and Optimizer
  • Try prompts against different models in the Prompt Playground, then use the Opik Agent Optimizer SDK to improve prompts and agents.
  • Production monitoring and guardrails
  • Dashboards track feedback scores, trace counts, and token usage, online evaluation rules score live traces, and optional guardrails run as a separate service enabled with the guardrails flag.
  • Python, TypeScript, and OpenTelemetry
  • Python and TypeScript SDKs plus a REST API cover tracing, while OpenTelemetry support lets Java, Ruby, .NET, and other languages send traces to Opik.
  • Coding-agent MCP server
  • Run uvx opik mcp configure to let Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code Copilot, Codex, or opencode read traces, score outputs, and run evaluations from chat.
