Poweradmin
PowerDNS answers the queries; Poweradmin gives you a browser-based control panel for its zones, records, DNSSEC keys, and users, with a REST API for automation. Create master, native, and slave zones, and let zone templates stamp predefined record sets onto new ones. Edit records inline with filters, or open the optional Record Wizard for DMARC, SPF, DKIM, CAA, TLSA, and SRV. Reverse zones link to their forward zones. The batch PTR tool fills whole network ranges, bulk add takes one CSV line per record, and secondary zones can be imported over AXFR. For DNSSEC, manage keys and copy DS and DNSKEY records for your registrar; changes are applied or rectified through the PowerDNS API so signed zones stay consistent. Every record and zone edit is logged with before and after snapshots, and the logs can be filtered and exported. The panel is translated into 43 languages, including right-to-left ones. Permission templates, users, and groups control who touches which zones, sign-in works through LDAP, OIDC, or SAML, and administrators can switch on authenticator-app or email two-factor codes. API keys can be read-only, limited to chosen operations, or restricted to specific zones, and companion projects link Terraform, ExternalDNS, cert-manager, and Certbot. Dynamic DNS clients such as ddclient and inadyn update records through a dyndns2-compatible endpoint. Running on a dedicated VPS on RepoCloud with guaranteed CPU, RAM, and SSD, full root SSH access, and a browser serial console. GPL-3.0 licensed.
Benefits
- Manage Zones Without Touching SQL
- Browse, create, and edit master, native, and slave zones and their records in a browser, with filters, templates, and bulk tools replacing hand-written database statements or one-off API calls.
- DNSSEC Stays Safe Through The API
- In API backend mode every change goes through the PowerDNS REST API, so PowerDNS keeps NSEC and NSEC3 chains correct; the SQL backend rectifies signed zones through the API after each change.
- Every Change Leaves An Audit Trail
- The record change log stores before and after snapshots of each record and zone edit with user and timestamp, filterable by action, user, and date, and exportable to CSV or JSON.
- Automation Fits Your Existing Tooling
- Once the REST API is enabled, keys can be read-only, limited to chosen operations, or restricted to specific zones, and companion projects cover Terraform, ExternalDNS, cert-manager, and Certbot.
Features
- Zones, Records, and Templates
- Create master, native, and slave zones, edit records inline with filtering, apply zone templates, and manage catalog zones with producer, consumer, and members on PowerDNS 4.7 or newer.
- Reverse DNS and Bulk Tools
- Reverse zones link to their forward zones, the batch PTR tool covers whole IPv4 or IPv6 network ranges, and bulk record entry accepts one CSV line per record.
- DNSSEC Key Management
- Secure a zone, then add, activate, export, or delete KSK, ZSK, and CSK keys and copy DS and DNSKEY records. All DNSSEC work goes through the PowerDNS API.
- Users, Groups, and Single Sign-On
- Permission templates assign rights to users and groups, with LDAP, OIDC, and SAML single sign-on, plus optional TOTP or email-code two-factor authentication once an administrator enables MFA.
- REST API With OpenAPI Docs
- Enable the REST API with PA_API_ENABLED=true in Docker, browse its OpenAPI documentation at /api/docs once docs are enabled, and issue keys limited by operation or zone.
- Docker and Multiple Databases
- The poweradmin/poweradmin image runs on SQLite, MySQL, or PostgreSQL, supports Docker secrets, and is also published to ghcr.io/poweradmin/poweradmin for container deployments.
