Cairn

Cairn gives the people you host services for one calm directory page that explains each service in plain language and shows whether it works right now. Your family does not want another dashboard; they want to know what this thing is and what to click. Group tools by need, write a welcome note in your own words, and give each service a Learn more page that explains whom to ask for an account. Status comes from the monitor you already run, Gatus, Uptime Kuma, Cachet, or a hosted status page, polled by your server so a visitor's browser never has to call anything. Labels say honestly where a service stands: coming soon, beta, new, deprecated, or retired, with dead links removed for the last two. Search finds the one service by name from anywhere on the page, eight shipped languages plus your own inline translations cover the relatives abroad, and legal notice and privacy pages are served by Cairn itself, because self-hosters never have anywhere to put those. The whole directory is one YAML file and a five-megabyte image. Running on a dedicated VPS on RepoCloud with guaranteed CPU, RAM, and SSD, full root SSH access, and a browser serial console. GPL-3.0 licensed.

Benefits

  • Written For Non-Technical Visitors
  • Each service gets its name, one plain-language sentence, and a Learn more page saying what it is for and whom to ask for an account, so family and clients understand your homelab without a manual.
  • Live Status Without New Monitoring
  • Cairn reads Gatus, Uptime Kuma, Cachet, Statping-ng, Upptime, or hosted status pages you already run and renders the pills server-side, so visitors see a truthful status dot with zero third-party browser calls.
  • Honest Lifecycle Labels
  • Coming soon, beta, new, deprecated, and retired labels say where each service stands, and retired entries stop being links automatically, so the directory never sends visitors to tools you switched off.
  • One File, Five Megabytes
  • A single static binary with no database serves the whole directory from one read-only YAML file, picks up edits within seconds, and can export itself as static files for plain hosting.

Features

  • Grouped Service Directory
  • Services are organized into categories by need with icons, a dismissable welcome note, a category trail, and lock markers on services needing an account.
  • Monitor Integrations
  • Reads states from Gatus (with per-service links and a config emit mode), Uptime Kuma, Cachet, Statping-ng, Upptime, Statuspage, Instatus, UptimeRobot, Better Stack, and StatusCake.
  • Search And Languages
  • Name-exact search from anywhere (Cmd+K, keyboard navigable, screen-reader announced) plus eight languages with browser detection, a pinning switcher, RTL support, and inline translations.
  • Built-In Legal Pages
  • Legal notice and privacy pages are written in Markdown and served by Cairn itself, solving the pages every self-hoster owes visitors and never has a home for.
  • Accessible, Works Without JavaScript
  • WCAG AA contrast measured in CI, skip links, landmarks, light and dark themes, a phone layout, and full function without JavaScript keep it readable for everyone.
