Thesys
Thesys is a research workspace where you search academic papers, build your own library, and ask questions that answer with citations you can click straight onto the highlighted passage of the PDF. Discovery searches OpenAlex and arXiv in one pool, so a paper you find can be previewed and added to your library without leaving the workspace. Uploaded PDFs are ingested locally, and when you ask a question the answer cites its sources in the document, jumping the preview to the retrieved passage with either a full-passage or a tighter focused highlight. Reader mode opens a paper full-width so you can select any span of text and ask about that exact passage. Document summaries follow a consistent structure of problem statement, methodology, key findings, limitations, and metrics, with citations that still land on the source text. Figures and flowcharts are described during ingest, so questions and summaries can reference them too. When two papers disagree, Compare mode takes one claim and classifies each retrieved pair as corroboratory, contradictory, or neutral, with confidence shown in a side panel. Your bibliography exports as BibTeX, RIS, EndNote, or CSV for whatever reference manager you already use. Papers, embeddings, and chat history stay on your own disk the whole time. Running on a dedicated VPS on RepoCloud with guaranteed CPU, RAM, and SSD, full root SSH access, and a browser serial console. AGPL-3.0 licensed.
Benefits
- Citations You Can Click
- Answers cite sources inside the document and clicking a citation jumps the PDF preview to the passage, with full or focused highlighting, so verifying a claim takes seconds instead of a search.
- Papers Stay On Your Disk
- PDFs, embeddings, and chat history live in your own data volume because ingestion and retrieval run locally, keeping an unpublished reading list out of third-party research clouds entirely.
- Two Papers, One Claim
- Compare mode selects two library papers and classifies each retrieved pair of passages as corroboratory, contradictory, or neutral with confidence, surfacing disagreement instead of blending it away.
- Exports Fit Your Manager
- Bibliographies export as BibTeX, RIS, EndNote, or CSV, so the library you build in Thesys drops straight into the reference manager and writing workflow you already have.
Features
- OpenAlex And ArXiv Search
- Search open-access literature from OpenAlex and arXiv in a single pool, preview a record, open the original link, or add the paper directly to your local library.
- Local PDF Ingestion
- Upload PDFs for local parsing and indexing with optional OCR for scanned documents, figure and flowchart descriptions, and storage of papers, vectors, and chat history on disk.
- Reader Mode Questions
- Open a paper full-width, select any span of text, and ask about that passage, or request structured summaries covering problem, methodology, findings, limitations, and metrics.
- Inline Citation Highlights
- Chat answers carry inline citations that jump to the retrieved passage on the PDF, switchable between full-passage highlights and tighter focused highlights in the PDF header.
- Four Export Formats
- Export your bibliography as BibTeX, RIS, EndNote, or CSV from the library view, covering the major reference managers and plain spreadsheet workflows alike.
