Tessera
Most file sharing leaves copies lying around forever; Tessera shares things with a built-in goodbye. Drop in a file, a whole folder, a code snippet, or a link and you get back a short code and a URL that anyone can open until it expires or hits the download count you set, at which point it is deleted. Expiry is checked on every request and each retrieval is counted atomically, so a one-time share cannot be raced by two people at once. Passwords can be required before anything is shown, code arrives syntax-highlighted, and images, SVGs, and diagrams preview in the page, with link cards when you paste the URL into chat. Uploads resume after interruptions and stream through the server without ballooning memory at any size. Behind the scenes you choose where bytes live: local disk, S3-compatible storage, Azure Blob, Google Cloud Storage, or WebDAV, several at once, added or retired from the admin panel without a restart. Accounts are optional for a home server, sign-in through OpenID Connect suits a team, and roles with per-account quotas decide who may upload, view everyone's shares, or change settings. Optional malware scanning, anonymous-upload caps, and rate-limited code lookups keep a public instance honest. A CLI and API tokens drive the same endpoints as the web app, so scripts can share and clean up exactly like people. Running on a dedicated VPS on RepoCloud with guaranteed CPU, RAM, and SSD, full root SSH access, and a browser serial console. AGPL-3.0 licensed.
Benefits
- Shares That Delete Themselves
- Every share carries a lifetime and an optional retrieval limit enforced on each request with atomic counting, so one-time links truly work once and nothing lingers after its purpose ends.
- Send Anything, Preview Everything
- Files, folders, code snippets, and links all become short-code shares, with syntax highlighting for code and in-page previews for images, SVGs, and diagrams before anyone downloads a byte.
- Storage You Can Rearrange Live
- Local disk, S3-compatible stores, Azure Blob, Google Cloud Storage, and WebDAV can run side by side and be added or retired from the admin panel without restarting the service.
- Home Server Or Team Ready
- Anonymous uploads and SQLite suit a NAS, while OpenID Connect sign-in, roles, per-account quotas, and PostgreSQL or MySQL scale the same binary to organizations and public instances.
Features
- Expiry And Retrieval Limits
- Each share has a lifetime and optional maximum downloads, checked on every request with a single conditional database update that prevents race conditions on one-time shares.
- Passwords And Previews
- Optional passwords gate viewing and downloading, code renders syntax-highlighted, images and diagrams preview inline, and chat apps receive a preview card for pasted links.
- Resumable Streaming Uploads
- Interrupted uploads resume instead of restarting, files stream rather than buffer so memory stays flat at any size, and S3 or GCS backends can take uploads directly.
- Mixed Storage Backends
- Local disk, S3-compatible, Azure Blob, Google Cloud Storage, and WebDAV storage run together, managed from the admin panel without restarts, with optional splitting of large files across buckets.
- Roles, Quotas, And Scanning
- OpenID Connect accounts, roles controlling upload and admin rights, quotas per role, account, or anonymous use, rate-limited code lookups, and optional malware scanning for public deployments.
- API, CLI, And Tokens
- An OpenAPI contract generated from the server code, fuzz-tested in CI, drives a CLI and API tokens that use exactly the same endpoints as the web interface.
