Filex

Your files already live in five places; filex puts them in one tree and serves that tree back out through almost any protocol. Mount local disks, S3 buckets, SFTP servers, WebDAV shares, FTP sites, and SMB network drives side by side, then copy in one storage and paste into another without thinking about where anything physically sits. The same tree is reachable as S3, SFTP, FTPS, NFS, and WebDAV, so rclone, restic, the AWS CLI, WinSCP, or FileZilla all work against it with the same per-user and per-folder permissions as the web interface. Sharing leaves the server under your control: public links carry a PIN, an expiry, and a download limit, and file-request links let people upload into a folder without seeing its contents. Anything deleted stays recoverable inside a retention window, overwritten files keep version snapshots, and encrypted folders are sealed in the browser so the server never receives a key. People sign in with OIDC single sign-on, LDAP or Active Directory, or the host machine's own accounts, with roles, groups, and tenants plus folder-level exceptions. A desktop app keeps chosen folders in sync within about a second, the file manager embeds into other products as a web component, and an MCP server plus REST API let agents work the same tree. It runs from one static binary or container on port 5212. Running on a dedicated VPS on RepoCloud with guaranteed CPU, RAM, and SSD, full root SSH access, and a browser serial console. MIT licensed.

Benefits

  • Every Storage, One Tree
  • Local disks, S3, SFTP, WebDAV, FTP, and SMB mounts appear side by side in one browser tree, and you copy or cut in one backend and paste in another without migration projects.
  • Links You Can Take Back
  • Public share links carry PINs, expiry dates, and download limits, file requests accept uploads without exposing folder contents, and every link you created stays listed for copying or instant revocation.
  • Deletes And Overwrites, Reversible
  • Trash retention and automatic version snapshots live inside the storage you already mounted, while end-to-end encrypted folders keep keys in the browser, so accidents and sensitive files are both handled.
  • One Binary, Real Access Control
  • A single static binary or container on port 5212 brings OIDC, LDAP, roles, groups, and multi-tenancy, applying the same permissions across the web UI, S3, SFTP, FTPS, NFS, and WebDAV.

Features

  • Multi-Backend File Browser
  • Browse and manage local, S3, SFTP, WebDAV, FTP, and SMB storage in one web interface, moving files between backends with copy and paste and searching across the unified tree.
  • Protocol Re-Serving Layer
  • The mounted tree is served back as S3, SFTP, FTPS, NFSv3, and WebDAV endpoints, so standard tools like rclone, restic, aws s3, WinSCP, and FileZilla connect natively.
  • Guarded Public Sharing
  • Token-based download links with PIN, expiry, and download caps, upload-only file requests, a My Shares revocation list, and folder sharing that appears under each recipient's Shared With Me.
  • Versions, Trash, And Encryption
  • Reversible deletes within a retention window, snapshots of overwritten files, browser-side end-to-end encrypted folders the server cannot read, and optional ClamAV scanning of every written file.
  • Identity, Roles, And Tenancy
  • OIDC single sign-on, LDAP and Active Directory, and host OS accounts feed roles, groups, and multi-tenant separation with per-folder exceptions that override role defaults.
  • Sync, Embedding, And Agents
  • A desktop app syncs folders between devices in about a second, the explorer embeds as a web component, and REST plus MCP interfaces let automation and agents manage files.
