Filestash

Filestash puts a Dropbox-style web interface in front of the SFTP servers, S3 buckets, SMB shares, and WebDAV storage you already run, so no file has to move. Administrators enable each connector, including FTP, NFS, Git, Dropbox, Google Drive, Storj, IPFS, and Backblaze B2, from one admin console. Colleagues browse, rename, move, and upload in a single folder view, with resumable uploads for big transfers. Thumbnails cover JPEG, PNG, WebP, TIFF, HEIF, and RAW photos. Images open with an EXIF info panel, and PDFs, audio, video, and EPUB ebooks open right in the browser. A CodeMirror editor handles text and code, and HLS transcoding streams video on demand. Outside guests get a shared link instead of credentials, with an optional password, an expiry date, and read, write, or upload-only rights. Limit a link to one email address or a whole domain, or mount it as a network drive. A workflow engine chains emails and HTTP calls after file events, webhooks, or schedules. Flip one admin setting and Claude, ChatGPT, and Mistral Le Chat can use the connected storage as MCP tools. Downloadable file apps add Office documents, 3D models, and GIS maps. Runtime plugins are zip files dropped into the plugins folder. Running on a dedicated VPS on RepoCloud with guaranteed CPU, RAM, and SSD, full root SSH access, and a browser serial console. AGPL-3.0 licensed.

Benefits

  • Keep data where it already lives
  • Filestash reads and writes SFTP, S3, SMB, FTP, WebDAV, NFS, Git, Dropbox, and Google Drive storage in place, so teams gain one interface without migrating, duplicating, or re-permissioning a single file.
  • Give non-experts a familiar interface
  • Passthrough and htpasswd login hide hostnames, ports, and access keys behind a Dropbox-style folder view, so colleagues and clients can use SFTP or S3 storage without learning protocol details.
  • Share files without sharing credentials
  • Shared links add passwords, expiry dates, and email or domain restrictions, so outside collaborators never see your storage keys, and each link can also be mounted as a network drive.
  • Runs comfortably on a small VPS
  • The official Docker image can run on 128 MB of RAM and one CPU core, listens on port 8334, and keeps its state in one data folder, so a modest server can host it.

Features

  • Universal storage connectors
  • Connect SFTP, S3, FTP and FTPS, SMB, WebDAV, NFS, Git, Dropbox, Google Drive, Storj, IPFS, and Backblaze B2 backends, each enabled from the admin console.
  • Built-in file viewers
  • Open images with an EXIF info panel, PDFs, audio, video, and EPUB ebooks in the browser, with a CodeMirror editor for text and code files and HLS video transcoding.
  • Secure shared links
  • Create links with optional passwords and expiry dates, read, write, or upload-only rights, and email or domain limits, then mount a link as a network drive.
  • Workflow automation engine
  • Chain email and HTTP-call actions after file events, filesystem changes, webhooks, or time-based schedules, and review every workflow from the admin console's workflow page.
  • MCP endpoint for AI
  • Expose connected storage as tools to Claude, ChatGPT, and Mistral Le Chat over MCP, switched on under Features in the admin settings.
  • Plugins and file apps
  • Downloadable file apps open Office documents, 3D models, and GIS maps, while runtime plugins are zip files dropped into the plugins folder that can reshape the frontend.
