Dokuwiki

Every page in a DokuWiki knowledge base is just a plain text file on disk, so a team wiki can run for years on modest hardware with no database to feed, ever. Writers edit pages in a clean, readable syntax, fix just one section of a long document at a time, and lean on the toolbar, breadcrumbs, automatic tables of contents, and conflict locking to keep collaboration painless. Every change is kept as a revision with colored side-by-side diffs, recent-changes feeds go out over RSS, and an index-based full-text search finds content across thousands of pages in milliseconds. Namespaces organize content into a browsable tree, while built-in access control lists decide per page or per branch who may read, edit, upload, or administer, with logins checked against LDAP and other backends. Media uploads embed straight into pages, configuration happens in the browser, and the whole installation backs up by copying a folder, which makes migrations and disaster recovery almost boringly simple. When the basics stop being enough, more than twelve hundred community plugins and a hundred templates add galleries, multilingual structures, diagrams, and data tables without changing how the wiki itself works. Running on a dedicated VPS on RepoCloud with guaranteed CPU, RAM, and SSD, full root SSH access, and a browser serial console. GPL-2.0 licensed.

Benefits

  • No Database, Ever
  • Pages live as plain text files on disk, so there is no database server to patch, tune, or back up separately, and the entire wiki moves to a new host by copying one folder.
  • History You Can Trust
  • Every edit is stored as a revision with colored side-by-side diffs, page locking prevents clashes, and autosave protects work in progress, so nothing a team writes is ever silently lost.
  • Access Control Built In
  • Per-page and per-namespace ACLs decide who can read, edit, upload, or delete, and authentication backends connect the wiki to LDAP, MySQL, Postgres, and other existing identity systems.
  • Plugins For Every Itch
  • Over twelve hundred community plugins and a hundred templates add galleries, multilingual pages, diagrams, and structured data, all installable and updatable from the built-in extension manager.

Features

  • Readable Wiki Syntax
  • Pages are written in a clean text syntax with a formatting toolbar, section editing for long documents, automatic tables of contents, and optional CamelCase linking.
  • Revisions And Diffs
  • Unlimited page revisions are kept forever, with colored side-by-side diffs, recent changes pages, and RSS or ATOM feeds streaming every edit to subscribers.
  • Namespaces And Search
  • Content is organized into namespaces with an automatic browsable index, and an index-based full-text search with page caching keeps large wikis fast under load.
  • ACLs And Auth Backends
  • Extended access control lists manage read, edit, upload, and admin rights per user or group, with spam blacklists and pluggable authentication against external directories.
  • Extension Manager Included
