Scoold
Scoold brings Stack Overflow-style Q&A to a server you control, so answers get voted, accepted, and found again instead of scrolling away in chat. Askers get a Markdown editor with live preview, tags, and emojis, and the form suggests similar questions and flags likely duplicates before anything is posted. Answerers collect upvotes, accepted answers, reputation points, and badges, including custom ones with your own text, icon, and color. Authors and moderators can restore any earlier revision, because every edit is kept. Searchers can use Lucene syntax such as exact phrases, wildcards, and boolean operators. Admins split one site into private spaces, up to ten in the free edition, and choose how people sign in: email and password, LDAP, or social providers such as Google and GitHub. They can also back up and restore data, import a Stack Overflow for Teams export, and follow a dashboard of questions, answers, traffic, and active members. Builders get a REST API with OpenAPI docs, signed webhooks, Zapier and n8n connectors, and an optional MCP server for AI assistants. Color themes include a dark mode, Mermaid diagrams and KaTeX formulas can be switched on, and right-to-left languages are supported. SAML, SCIM, file uploads, and chat integrations are Pro-edition features. Running on a dedicated VPS on RepoCloud with guaranteed CPU, RAM, and SSD, full root SSH access, and a browser serial console. Apache-2.0 licensed.
Benefits
- Answers Stay Searchable For Everyone
- Every question, answer, and comment is indexed for full-text search that accepts Lucene syntax, so colleagues can find an existing solution by exact phrase, wildcard, tag filter, or boolean combination.
- Private Spaces For Separate Teams
- Spaces keep questions and users isolated per team, administrators grant access and bulk-edit memberships, and the default space can be made private with one setting; the free edition allows ten spaces.
- Migrate From Stack Overflow For Teams
- Upload a Stack Overflow for Teams export on the Administration page and your questions, answers, and users arrive in Scoold; only user badges are left behind. Backup and restore are built in.
- Connects To Automations And AI Assistants
- The REST API, signed webhooks, Zapier and n8n connectors, and a built-in MCP server let scripts, workflows, and AI clients search, read, and moderate content; the MCP server stays off until enabled.
Features
- Markdown Editor With Preview
- Write in GitHub-flavored Markdown with tables, task lists, highlighted code, emojis, and live preview; Mermaid diagrams and KaTeX formulas are opt-in, and every edit becomes a restorable revision.
- Voting, Reputation, and Badges
- Upvotes and downvotes, accepted answers, reputation points, and badges reward helpful members; custom badges take your own text, icon, and color, and similar-question hints reduce duplicates.
- Admin Dashboard and Themes
- The /admin area charts questions, answers, traffic, trending posts, and active members, and manages themes, webhooks, API keys, backup and restore, and Stack Overflow import.
- Flexible Sign-In Options
- Register with email and password, authenticate against LDAP, or use social login through Google, GitHub, Microsoft, Slack, and more; Gravatar avatars are supported.
- REST API and Webhooks
- A REST API described by OpenAPI 3.0, HMAC-signed webhooks, Zapier and n8n connectors, and a built-in MCP server with read-only or read-write modes, disabled by default.
- Docker Compose With Para
- Docker Compose starts Scoold on port 8000 beside its Para backend on 8080; plan for about 3 GB of RAM on one host and configure SMTP before production.
