MantisBT
Every bug a team finds, from the first report to the day it is marked resolved, lives in one shared list in MantisBT, an open-source issue tracker. Reporters file issues with a summary, steps to reproduce, severity, and attachments, and email notifications reach the reporter, the handler, monitors, and note authors. Six access levels, from viewer to administrator, can be overridden project by project, and private projects stay hidden from users below the configured level. Administrators define their own status values, workflow transitions, and custom fields. Sub-projects inherit versions and categories from their parents, and issues link as related, parent and child, or duplicates. @mentions pull colleagues into a discussion, tags group related work, and a chronological history records who changed what. Triage works from stored and shared filters, the My View page, and summary charts, while a roadmap and changelog track what each version contains. Reporting comes through CSV and Excel export, optional time tracking with billing totals, and RSS feeds. Sign-in can use LDAP or Active Directory, scripts reach the tracker through REST and SOAP APIs, plugins extend the interface, and 50 languages are included. Running on a dedicated VPS on RepoCloud with guaranteed CPU, RAM, and SSD, full root SSH access, and a browser serial console. GPL-2.0-or-later licensed.
Benefits
- Track Every Bug To Resolution
- Each issue carries a status, severity, priority, assigned handler, notes, attachments, and a chronological history, so the team always knows who owns a bug and what changed since the last report.
- Limit Access By Project
- Six access levels from viewer to administrator apply globally and can be overridden per project, while private projects stay invisible to users below the configured threshold.
- Shape Workflow To Your Process
- Administrators define custom status values, the valid transitions between them, and the access level required for each move, then add custom fields so every issue captures exactly what reviewers need.
- Keep Everyone Informed By Email
- Notification flags decide whether reporters, handlers, monitors, note authors, and category owners are emailed for each event, and @mentions in notes or descriptions pull specific colleagues into a discussion.
Features
- Roadmap And Changelog
- Versions carry target issues and release dates, so the roadmap lists what is planned for each release and the changelog records what was fixed or added when it shipped.
- Issue Relationships
- Issues link as related, parent and child, or duplicate, resolving a parent warns while children remain open, and optional GraphViz dependency graphs show how work connects.
- Filters And Summary Charts
- Stored and shared filters narrow long issue lists, My View groups assigned, reported, and monitored issues, and the summary page breaks counts down by status, severity, and category.
- REST And SOAP APIs
- A REST API with a published OpenAPI definition and a SOAP API let scripts and other tools create, read, and update issues; both are enabled by default.
- LDAP And Active Directory
- Accounts can authenticate against LDAP or Active Directory and be created automatically on first login, while built-in self-service signup and password reset can be switched on or off.
- Time Tracking And Export
- Optional time tracking records effort on each issue with simple billing totals, and issue lists export to CSV or Excel for spreadsheets and reports.
