LinkSift
LinkSift is a self-hosted media downloader that turns pasted links into finished MP4 or MP3 files through a calm browser queue you run on your own server. Paste one URL or a whole batch and it first inspects the metadata, showing titles and available qualities before a single byte of media moves. You pick MP4 or MP3, choose the video height the source actually offers, and can even request both outputs from the same link, in which case the audio is extracted from the downloaded video instead of fetched twice. Every job reports its phase, percentage, downloaded bytes, speed, and ETA live, including real encoding progress while the audio is being packaged. Reloading or reopening the tab restores the queue exactly where it was, because a running server job is never re-submitted or cancelled by a closed browser. Finished files save through the normal browser download flow, or into a folder you pick in Chromium-based browsers. A configurable concurrency limit keeps a long batch from saturating your connection, and light, dark, and system themes keep long queues easy on the eyes. There is deliberately no account system or telemetry, so the queue stays a private tool on your network. Running on a dedicated VPS on RepoCloud with guaranteed CPU, RAM, and SSD, full root SSH access, and a browser serial console. MIT licensed.
Benefits
- Inspect Before You Download
- LinkSift asks yt-dlp for metadata first, so you see the title and every available quality before committing bandwidth, and a mistaken or dead link costs you seconds instead of a partial file.
- One Link, Two Finished Files
- Request MP4 and MP3 from the same URL and the audio is extracted from the downloaded video with ffmpeg, saving bandwidth and time while each completed output gets its own save button.
- A Queue That Survives Reloads
- Reloading or closing the tab never re-submits or cancels a server job, and each intentional download carries a request identifier, so a retried submission resolves to the job it already created.
- Private By Default Design
- There are no accounts, no telemetry, and no public service involved; the interface binds to localhost by default and your download history never leaves the machine you installed it on.
Features
- Batch Download Queue
- Paste one or many yt-dlp-supported URLs into a single queue with a configurable concurrency limit, quality selection per job, and ordered processing from one responsive browser page.
- Live Progress Reporting
- Each job streams its phase, percentage, downloaded bytes, transfer speed, and ETA, and audio packaging reports real ffmpeg encoding progress instead of sitting at a fixed percentage.
- MP4 And MP3 Outputs
- Choose MP4 video or MP3 audio before inspection, select from the video heights yt-dlp returns, and save results through the browser or a Chromium folder picker.
- Hardened Docker Runtime
- The published GHCR image bundles Python, yt-dlp, ffmpeg, Gunicorn, and Deno, runs as a non-root user, and ships for both amd64 and arm64 with verifiable release attestations.
