Yubal
Paste any YouTube Music album, playlist, or track link into Yubal and get back a clean, fully tagged music library instead of a pile of video files. Tracks land in Artist and Year-Album folders with numbered filenames, cover art, and synced .lrc lyrics files, while playlists become M3U files that reference the album copies so a song appearing in ten playlists is stored exactly once. Subscribe to playlists and a cron-driven scheduler pulls new tracks into your library automatically on the schedule you set. The web interface shows real-time progress and a job queue that works on mobile, with automatic retries on failed downloads and graceful cancellation when you change your mind. Lyrics come from lrclib.net with a YouTube Music fallback, ReplayGain tags keep playback volume consistent across tracks and whole albums, and audio arrives as opus, mp3, or m4a, downloaded directly when possible and transcoded otherwise. Finished libraries drop straight into Navidrome, Jellyfin, or Gonic, and a browser extension for Firefox and Chrome queues downloads or subscriptions from the YouTube page you are already browsing. Optional cookie support unlocks private playlists, Liked Music, and age-restricted content, and a companion CLI downloads and inspects metadata from the terminal. Running on a dedicated VPS on RepoCloud with guaranteed CPU, RAM, and SSD, full root SSH access, and a browser serial console. MIT licensed.
Benefits
- Libraries That Organize Themselves
- Downloads land in Artist and Year-Album folders with numbered tracks, cover art, and lyrics files, so Navidrome or Jellyfin indexes everything correctly without manual renaming, tagging, or folder repair after every download.
- Playlists Stay in Sync
- Subscribe once and the cron scheduler rechecks each playlist on your schedule, pulling new tracks automatically; deduplication stores a shared track once while every playlist M3U still points at it.
- Consistent Volume, Synced Lyrics
- ReplayGain track and album gain tags normalize playback loudness across your whole library, while synced .lrc files from lrclib.net enable karaoke-style scrolling lyrics in players that support them.
- Queue From Any Page
- The Firefox and Chrome extension sends the track or playlist you are viewing to your server in one click, and the mobile-friendly web UI shows real-time job progress wherever you check it.
Features
- Scheduled Playlist Sync
- A cron-based scheduler rechecks subscribed playlists and downloads new tracks automatically, with a configurable 1800-second default job timeout, automatic retry on failures, and graceful cancellation.
- Smart Deduplication
- Tracks are stored once in their album folder and referenced relatively from every playlist M3U, so ten playlists sharing one song cost one file on disk, not ten copies.
- Format and Quality Control
- Choose opus, mp3, or m4a output with a 0-to-10 transcode quality scale; Yubal downloads the best source directly when available and transcodes otherwise.
- Browser Extension Companion
- Firefox add-on and manual-install Chrome extension detect YouTube and YouTube Music pages, queue one-click downloads, and subscribe to playlists against any instance URL you configure.
- Media Server Ready
- Output is tested against Navidrome out of the box, Jellyfin with non-standard artist tags enabled, and Gonic with multi-value artist settings, including correct multi-artist linking.
