TypeType
On your own server, TypeType runs a private video platform for YouTube, NicoNico, and BiliBili, keeping subscriptions, history, and playlists out of someone else's recommendation engine. Pick a service and search it. Browse channels, Shorts, podcasts, and a home feed. Speed and quality control. Cinema mode. Native picture-in-picture. Subtitles, alternate audio tracks, and frame-by-frame stepping. SponsorBlock segments get skipped, or just marked, by category. Subscriptions, playlists, watch later, favorites, and resume positions fill the library. Import a Google Takeout export or a PipePipe backup and a new instance never starts empty. Download video or audio to local or S3-compatible storage and collect it in the browser when it is ready. Sign in locally or through OIDC. An admin console runs the instance. Block a channel and it disappears from feeds, search, and related videos. Hide Shorts. Hide personalized recommendations. Hide the suggestions column. A native Android client for phones and tablets syncs with the same instance. An optional experimental recommender can build a personalized home feed, and each user chooses whether to turn it on. Running on a dedicated VPS on RepoCloud with guaranteed CPU, RAM, and SSD, full root SSH access, and a browser serial console. MIT licensed.
Benefits
- Your data stays on your server
- Subscriptions, history, playlists, favorites, watch progress, and settings live in your instance's own PostgreSQL database, and TypeType adds no telemetry, so you alone control storage, logs, and network configuration.
- Three video services, one interface
- Switch between YouTube, NicoNico, and BiliBili inside one responsive web app instead of juggling separate sites, with a single account, library, and set of player preferences.
- Runs on a modest VPS
- The full Compose stack fits a 2 vCPU, 4 GiB RAM, 20 GiB SSD host, and published images support both amd64 and arm64, from cloud servers to a Raspberry Pi.
- One-command install with safe updates
- An interactive installer generates secrets, picks free ports, starts every service, and provisions Garage storage for downloads; updates first create a timestamped backup and verify version endpoints before finishing.
Features
- MSE and SABR playback
- Browser playback uses MSE, and YouTube streams use the stateful SABR path, with quality selection, playback speed, subtitle tracks, audio-track switching, and recovery controls.
- SponsorBlock segment control
- Community-marked segments appear on the seek bar and can be skipped, marked, or ignored, with per-category Skip, Mark, or Hide rules, chapter display, and optional muting.
- Downloader with Garage storage
- A dedicated downloader service muxes video and audio jobs and stores finished artifacts in bundled Garage S3-compatible storage, which the installer provisions and bootstraps automatically.
- OIDC single sign-on
- The server accepts local accounts or OpenID Connect through OIDC_ISSUER, OIDC_CLIENT_ID, and OIDC_CLIENT_SECRET, with optional discovery URL, scopes, and provider name settings.
- Google Takeout and PipePipe import
- Existing subscriptions and playlists move over from a Google Takeout export or a PipePipe backup, so a new instance starts with your real library instead of an empty one.
- Native Android client
- A native app for Android 6.0 and newer installs from F-Droid or a signed APK without Google Play Services, and syncs accounts, subscriptions, downloads, and background audio.
