Understanding RepoCloud’s cost-efficient pricing model

Pricing Overview

RepoCloud is built on the principle that cloud hosting should be powerful, flexible, and affordable. Our pricing model is designed to provide significant cost savings compared to major cloud providers, and the price comparison shows the arithmetic. Every tier has Intel vCPU, NVMe SSD, SSL certificates, support for custom domain names, and unmetered 1 Gbps connections.

Elastic Hourly Autoscaling

Our signature pricing feature is Elastic Hourly Autoscaling, available for Container Apps. Each hour you pay the price of the tier that hour’s reading of memory and CPU maps to.

  • Fixed-Plan Pricing

With a fixed plan, you pay for peak capacity 24/7, even when your server is idle, leading to wasted resources and higher costs.

  • RepoCloud Autoscaling

An autoscaling app can use up to 16 GB of RAM and 4 cores at any moment. What changes is the tier you are billed for, read once an hour from its memory and CPU use.

How Autoscaling Works

  1. Your application starts with the autoscaling ceiling of 16 GB RAM and 4 cores and is billed at Tier 1 until the first hourly reading
  2. Nothing is resized, so there is no downtime: when the app needs more it uses more, up to the ceiling, and the next hourly reading bills the higher tier
  3. When use drops, the next hourly reading maps to a lower tier and you are billed less
  4. Each hour you are billed the hourly price of the tier that hour’s reading of memory and CPU maps to

Example Savings: Instead of a fixed 16 GB instance at $48/month, an autoscaling app whose hourly readings stay at Tier 1 (1 GB RAM, $3/month) is billed $3 for the month: 93.75% less, which is the most autoscaling can save against that fixed tier. The Autoscaling page works through three examples hour by hour.

Autoscaling is available for Container Apps only. VPS Apps use fixed resource tiers with a dedicated IPv4 address included at no extra charge.

Resource Tiers

VPS Apps use fixed resource tiers. Container Apps can choose between autoscaling and fixed tiers:

Tier RAM vCPU SSD Storage Hourly Price Monthly Price Availability
Tier 1 1 GB 1 20 GB $0.0042 $3.00 Container Apps only
Tier 2 2 GB 1 30 GB $0.0083 $6.00 Container + VPS
Tier 3 2 GB 2 40 GB $0.0125 $9.00 Container + VPS
Tier 4 4 GB 2 40 GB $0.0167 $12.00 Container + VPS
Tier 5 8 GB 4 80 GB $0.0333 $24.00 Container + VPS
Tier 6 16 GB 8 160 GB $0.0667 $48.00 Container + VPS
Tier 7 32 GB 16 320 GB $0.1333 $96.00 Container + VPS

The monthly price is the price of a 720-hour month. Billing deducts the hourly price each hour. The Pricing Tiers page has the specifications of every tier.

The $3/month tier (1 GB RAM) is only available for Container Apps. VPS instances start at $6/month (2 GB RAM). All tiers include Intel vCPU, NVMe SSD, SSL certificates, support for custom domain names, and unmetered 1 Gbps connections.

Balance Needed for VPS Apps

To deploy a VPS App your balance must be above $3.00. This applies to the dashboard, the AI deploy chat and the API. To create API or MCP keys, your account also needs at least one payment of $1 or more.

Additional Resources

Beyond the base resource tiers, you can also add:

  • Dedicated IPv4 Address: Included at no extra charge with every VPS App
  • Snapshots (VPS Apps): $0.10 per GB per month — point-in-time backups, up to 5 per instance
  • Extra SSD storage (Container Apps with a fixed tier, on the Scale Server page): $0.10 per GB per month, in steps of 10, 50, 100, 250, 500 and 1,000 GB ($1, $5, $10, $25, $50 and $100 a month). It is not offered for VPS Apps or for autoscaling apps
  • Data Transfer In: $0 per GB (free)
  • Data Transfer Out: free up to a monthly allowance for each instance (1 TB for Tier 1, scaling up to 10 TB for Tier 7), then $0.10 per GB. Traffic between the parts of your own project, such as an app and its database, is not counted. The allowance of every tier is listed in Pricing Tiers

Billing Model

RepoCloud operates on a prepaid, credit-based billing model:

  • Prepaid Credit: Your account carries a credit balance, visible at the top of your dashboard (the “Balance” link) and in the Billing tab
  • Hourly Metering: Resource usage is metered hourly and deducted from your balance
  • Auto Recharge: In the Billing tab, you can enable Auto Recharge to automatically purchase a set amount of credit whenever your balance drops below a threshold you choose (requires a payment method on file). The threshold can be $1 to $1,000 and the amount $3 to $1,000
  • Usage History: Download a detailed usage history from the Billing tab at any time with Download CSV
  • Paused Instances (Container Apps): Pausing reduces billing to 25% of the tier price, and any extra SSD is still billed in full; deleting stops billing entirely
  • Paused Instances (VPS Apps): Pausing does not reduce billing — the full hourly rate continues because the dedicated IPv4 and disk remain allocated; delete to stop billing
  • Baseline Cost: The smallest tier is about $3.00 per month, so an instance that runs continuously all month costs at least that much
  • Zero Balance: When your balance reaches zero, RepoCloud pauses your instances and emails you; Billing explains what follows for Container Apps and for VPS Apps
  • No Long-term Contracts: Pay as you go with no lock-in

Competitor prices reflect each provider’s cheapest comparable on-demand plan (same RAM, closest vCPU, US region, no commitments), last verified in July 2026. See the full price comparison for plan names and additional providers.

Choosing the Right Plan

When selecting a plan, consider these factors:

  1. Application Requirements: Different applications have different resource needs
  2. Expected Traffic: Higher traffic requires more resources
  3. Usage Patterns: Variable usage benefits most from autoscaling
  4. Budget Constraints: Fixed plans offer predictable monthly costs

For Container Apps whose needs you are unsure of, we recommend turning autoscaling on: it lets your application find its natural resource usage pattern. It is a switch on the deploy page and it is off by default. VPS Apps use fixed tiers only — choose a tier that meets the application’s minimum requirements.

FAQ

Can I change plans after deployment?

A fixed-tier Container App can be resized with Scale Server on its manage page; a larger size can be refused when the host does not have the capacity. An autoscaling app has no Scale Server button, only View Usage Chart, because its billed tier follows each hourly reading. A VPS App can be resized from its manage page to any tier whose disk is not smaller than its current disk, because a VPS disk cannot be shrunk.

Is there a free trial?

New accounts get free credit when they confirm their email.

How is billing calculated for autoscaling?

One reading of memory and CPU is taken each hour, and that hour is charged at the hourly rate of the tier the reading maps to. The instance’s usage chart shows the tier of each of the last 12 hours, and the Usage History in the Billing tab lists every hour.

Are there any long-term commitments?

No, RepoCloud operates on a prepaid, pay-as-you-go model with no long-term contracts.

How do I pay?

You purchase account credit through the Billing tab of your dashboard using a credit or debit card; payments are processed by Stripe, and a one-time purchase never turns Auto Recharge on. You can enable Auto Recharge separately to top up your balance automatically.
