OpenVidu

For online classes, telehealth visits, and support calls, OpenVidu Meet is a video meeting app that anyone with a link can join from a browser, with no account or download. A room needs only a name, and an optional wizard adds limits on participants (up to 30) and meeting length (up to a day), plus microphone and camera defaults. A shared Moderator or Speaker link admits anonymous guests, a personal link identifies each invited guest, and registered users sign in with their accounts. Developers can embed a room with an iframe or web component, and webhooks report meeting events to as many endpoints as needed. A smart mosaic favors recent speakers and counts the participants it hides, and a status rail shows the recording light, an encryption badge, and the time left. Moderators mute one participant's microphone, camera, or screen share, switch them off for everyone, remove people, and promote others. Virtual backgrounds blur the room or swap in an image, before joining or mid-call. Recordings start by hand or when the first participant, the second participant, or a moderator joins, in grid, speaker, or single-speaker layout. Permitted members can play, download, delete, or share saved recordings by link. End-to-end encryption protects audio, video, chat, and names behind a shared passphrase, though encrypted rooms cannot be recorded. Running on a dedicated VPS on RepoCloud with guaranteed CPU, RAM, and SSD, full root SSH access, and a browser serial console. Apache-2.0 licensed.

Benefits

  • Zoom-Style Meetings You Fully Own
  • Meetings, recordings, and accounts live on your own server with no hosted tier in between, so call data and every saved recording stay on infrastructure you control.
  • Start Hosting Meetings With Zero Code
  • Deploy it and rooms, recordings, chat, screen sharing, and moderation work immediately; no SDK integration or custom front end is needed before the first call.
  • Embed Video Inside Your Own App
  • Place meetings inside a customer portal, learning platform, or telehealth site using an iframe or web component, then create rooms and react to events through the REST API and webhooks.
  • Guest Links and Role-Based Access
  • Mix anonymous shared links, personal links for identified guests, and logged-in accounts, with Moderator and Speaker roles that give each participant the right level of control.

Features

  • LiveKit and mediasoup Core
  • OpenVidu builds on LiveKit and mediasoup for real-time audio and video; OpenVidu Platform stays API-compatible with LiveKit, so existing LiveKit client and server SDKs work unchanged.
  • Room Configuration Wizard
  • Per-room settings cover participant and duration limits, microphone and camera defaults, end-to-end encryption, live captions, chat, virtual backgrounds, recording options, and access control.
  • Recording With Three Layouts
  • Record in grid, speaker, or single-speaker layout, triggered manually or when the first participant, second participant, or a moderator joins, with optional anonymous access to recordings.
  • Embeddable Web Component
  • Embed Meet with an iframe or the OpenVidu Meet web component, and drive rooms from your backend with the REST API and webhooks.
  • Role-Based Access Control
  • Admin, room manager, and room member accounts plus anonymous and identified guest links, with Moderator and Speaker roles applied to each participant inside a meeting.
  • Room Lifecycle Controls
  • Rooms report Open, Active meeting, or Closed status, support search, filters, and bulk deletion, and auto-delete on a set date with separate policies for live meetings and recordings.
