taOS

taOS is a self-hosted operating system for AI agents that lives on hardware you already own, offline by default and cloud only when you invite it. Open one URL and a full web desktop appears: floating windows, a dock, launchpad, widgets, notifications, and 43 bundled apps, from mail and kanban projects to an app store with over a hundred one-click installs. Agents deploy through a guided wizard into isolated containers (LXC on bare metal, Docker on a VPS), each with its own memory store, files, secrets, and network identity. taOS owns the agent lifecycle outside the framework, so you can swap SmolAgents for LangChain or OpenClaw and the agent keeps its history, channels, trained adapters, and API keys untouched. Long-term memory is a temporal knowledge graph with hybrid search on your disk, not a row in a vendor database, and the messages app works like a private Discord that also installs as a phone PWA. Local inference spans Apple Silicon, NVIDIA, AMD, Rockchip NPUs, Raspberry Pi boards, and salvaged Android phones, with auto-clustering that pools idle machines into one compute fabric. Messaging connectors cover Telegram, Discord, Slack, Matrix, email, and webhooks, and a rollback command returns the system to a known-good state when an experiment misbehaves. Running on a dedicated VPS on RepoCloud with guaranteed CPU, RAM, and SSD, full root SSH access, and a browser serial console. AGPL-3.0 licensed.

Benefits

  • Your Agents, Your Hardware
  • Agents, conversations, files, and long-term memory stay on machines you control, with offline defaults and cloud models strictly opt-in, so a vendor outage or pricing change never strands your workflows.
  • Swap Frameworks, Keep Everything
  • taOS manages memory, channels, secrets, and files outside the agent framework, so switching execution engines keeps history, adapters, and integrations intact instead of forcing a rebuild.
  • Idle Hardware Becomes Compute
  • Auto-clustering pools spare laptops, single-board computers, Macs, and old phones into one inference fabric, turning e-waste into capacity for local models and agent tasks.
  • A Desktop In The Browser
  • A window manager, dock, launchpad, widgets, and 43 bundled apps (plus a store of over a hundred installs) give agents and humans one shared workspace on any device.

Features

  • Agent Deployment Wizard
  • A five-step flow picks framework and model, then deploys each agent into an isolated container with its own memory, storage, and network identity, auto-detecting LXC or Docker.
  • Offline Long-Term Memory
  • taOSmd stores a temporal knowledge graph with hybrid search and an append-only archive, so agents recall context across sessions without shipping data to external memory services.
  • Cluster Inference
  • Workers on Apple Silicon, NVIDIA, AMD, Rockchip NPU, Raspberry Pi, and Android contribute compute, while the model catalog covers LLMs, vision, embeddings, audio, and image generation.
  • Channels Everywhere
  • Connectors link Telegram, Discord, Slack, Matrix, email, web chat, and webhooks, and the standalone chat PWA at /chat-pwa installs on phones like a private messenger.
  • App Store And MCP Plugins
  • Over a hundred catalog apps install in one click into their own containers on safe ports, and 47 MCP plugins extend agent tools without touching core configuration.
