DroppedNeedle
Self-hosted music requests, no Lidarr install needed: DroppedNeedle searches MusicBrainz, drives your own slskd or Usenet setup, and files only verified, tagged tracks in your library. Request a whole album or a single track, then retry or cancel from a dedicated requests page. The engine queries slskd, or SABnzbd with Newznab indexers or Prowlarr, and scores every candidate before anything downloads. Files must pass checks for readable tags, a sane duration, and an optional AcoustID fingerprint match. Close calls park for admin review. Failed requests are searched again until a verified copy arrives. Quality floors per format and storage caps keep the library tidy, and better copies replace old ones. The built-in player queues Jellyfin, Navidrome, Plex, local files, and YouTube previews with shuffle, a 10-band equalizer, and embedded lyrics. Prefer your own app? Symfonium, Finamp, Feishin, and other Subsonic or Jellyfin clients connect with revocable app passwords. Discovery rows draw on ListenBrainz and Last.fm history and global charts, and a weekly mix can queue up to five missing albums. Follow artists for new-release alerts, or add Ticketmaster or Skiddle keys for gig listings in cities you choose. Import Spotify playlists, or drag in a zip of music you bought. Admin, Trusted, and User roles decide whether a request starts at once or waits for approval. Running on a dedicated VPS on RepoCloud with guaranteed CPU, RAM, and SSD, full root SSH access, and a browser serial console. AGPL-3.0 licensed.
Benefits
- Replaces Lidarr with one container
- The native engine scans, identifies, sources, fingerprints, tags, and files music in one pipeline, so you skip a separate Lidarr install and run a single image configured entirely from the web UI.
- Only verified files reach your library
- Each candidate is scored before download, then checked for readable tags, sane duration, and an optional AcoustID fingerprint match; bad sources are quarantined so they stop winning future searches.
- Play it from any music app
- OpenSubsonic and Jellyfin APIs let Symfonium, Finamp, Feishin, Amperfy, and Jellify stream your library using revocable per-app passwords, with on-the-fly transcoding when a client needs a different codec.
- Multi-user access with roles and SSO
- Admin, Trusted, and User roles decide whether requests start immediately or wait for approval, and people can sign in with a password, Jellyfin, Plex, or any OIDC provider such as Authelia or Keycloak.
Features
- MusicBrainz search and requests
- Search the full MusicBrainz catalogue by artist or album and request a whole album or single track, with retry, cancel, and a dedicated requests page.
- slskd and Usenet sources
- Drives your own slskd over its HTTP API, SABnzbd with Newznab indexers or Prowlarr, or both, with a source-priority setting deciding which is tried first.
- Wanted watcher and quality tiers
- A background watcher re-searches failed or incomplete requests, while per-format quality floors reject low-bitrate files and better copies replace old ones, moving originals to a recycle bin.
- Built-in player with equalizer
- Plays Jellyfin, Navidrome, Plex, local files, and YouTube previews in one queue, with shuffle, seek, a 10-band equalizer, and live now-playing broadcast to signed-in users.
- Discovery and scrobbling
- Recommendations from ListenBrainz and Last.fm history, charts, and similar artists, with Deezer and iTunes preview clips and per-user scrobbling to both services.
- Follow artists and gig alerts
- Following an artist watches for new releases with optional auto-download, while Ticketmaster and Skiddle API keys unlock concert alerts for chosen cities and radii.
