Doorman

Doorman puts one controlled front door in front of every API you run, instead of teaching each service to reinvent keys, quotas, and abuse protection. It routes REST, SOAP, GraphQL, gRPC, gRPC-Web, and AI traffic through a single gateway while its control plane handles the surrounding work. Catalog APIs in a visual builder, configure protocols and endpoints, validate schemas, and manage semantic versions with deprecation and sunset dates as interfaces evolve. Control who may call what through users, roles, groups, and subscriptions, then attach credit tiers and quotas so heavy consumers stay inside the plan you sold them. Slow abusive clients with rate limits, throttling, and bandwidth caps, and keep flaky upstreams from cascading through retries and circuit breaking. Follow every request in searchable logs, review security controls and audit activity, and move configuration between environments with import and export. Start in a self-contained in-memory mode for a small deployment, then switch to shared MongoDB and Redis when several gateway instances need the same counters, revocations, and routing state. Running on a dedicated VPS on RepoCloud with guaranteed CPU, RAM, and SSD, full root SSH access, and a browser serial console. Apache 2.0 licensed.

Benefits

  • One Gateway Every Protocol
  • Route REST, SOAP, GraphQL, gRPC, gRPC-Web, and AI APIs through one front door, so authentication, quotas, and logging rules are written once instead of per service.
  • Subscriptions Credits And Quotas
  • Sell or grant access with users, roles, groups, subscriptions, credit tiers, and quotas that meter each consumer against the allowance attached to their plan automatically.
  • Traffic Policies Built In
  • Rate limits, throttling, bandwidth caps, retries, and circuit breaking protect upstreams from abusive clients and cascading failures without extra middleware in every backend service.
  • Starts Small Scales Out
  • Begin with self-contained in-memory storage and no external database, then switch to MongoDB and Redis when multiple gateway instances must share state in production.

Features

  • Visual API Builder
  • Catalog APIs, configure protocols and endpoints, validate schemas, and manage discovery from the Next.js control plane served beside the Rust gateway.
  • Semantic Version Lifecycle
  • Resolve major version lines automatically and set deprecation and sunset dates so old API versions retire on a published schedule, not by surprise.
  • Access Control Plane
  • Manage authentication, users, roles, groups, and subscriptions centrally, deciding exactly which consumers may call which APIs and endpoints.
  • Request Logs And Monitoring
  • Inspect request logs, analytics, and audit and security controls to see who called what, how much they consumed, and where failures began.
  • Encrypted Memory Snapshots
  • In-memory mode persists encrypted snapshots compatible with the former DMP1 dump format, keeping single-node restarts simple without an external database.
  • Docker Compose Deployment
  • Compose starts the gateway on port 3001 and the web UI on port 3000, with an in-memory demo mode and a Redis profile for production.
