Bookshelf
Bookshelf turns a folder of EPUBs and PDFs you already own into a private library you can browse and read from any browser, at home or on your own server. Drop books into a folder, run the sync, and the shelf appears with covers extracted, titles searchable, and accents forgiven, so typing Bronte finds Brontë. Each reader in the house gets a profile that remembers their place in every book, and picking a book up on your phone resumes where the laptop left it, with a Continue button waiting on the shelf. EPUBs open chapter by chapter instead of downloading the whole archive, and PDFs stream in small ranged reads, so even a large scanned book opens quickly. Choose a two-page spread, a single page, or continuous scroll, then set paper, sepia, or night tints for longer sessions. E-readers join through the OPDS catalog, which lets a Kobo or Kindle-side client browse and download from the same shelf. There is no database to run and no account system to manage; the library is plain files you can back up with the volume. Running on a dedicated VPS on RepoCloud with guaranteed CPU, RAM, and SSD, full root SSH access, and a browser serial console. MIT licensed.
Benefits
- Your Books, Your Shelf
- EPUBs and PDFs stay as files in a folder you control, published into a searchable cover shelf without a database, account system, or external service.
- Everyone Keeps Their Place
- Separate profiles remember reading positions per person per book, and positions sync across devices so a book resumes on your phone where you stopped.
- Fast Opens, Light Reads
- EPUB chapters load one at a time and PDFs stream in small ranged reads, so large books open on kilobytes instead of downloading tens of megabytes first.
- E-Readers Welcome Too
- The built-in OPDS catalog lets Kobo and other OPDS clients browse and download the same library your browser shows, from the same published files.
Features
- Searchable Cover Shelf
- The sync tool builds a catalog with extracted covers and accent-insensitive search, so Brontë is found by typing Bronte on the shelf page.
- EPUB And PDF Readers
- Browser readers offer two-page spreads, single page, or continuous scroll, with contents panels, search, zoom, and paper, sepia, or night tints.
- Per-Reader Profiles
- Profiles store positions per reader, written locally first and synced after a pause, keeping page turns off the network until they batch up.
- OPDS Catalog Feed
- A machine-readable OPDS catalog serves the library to Kobo, Kindle-side tools, and any OPDS client for browsing and downloading books.
- No Database Required
- The library is published files on disk or object storage, so backup means copying one volume that holds books, covers, profiles, and positions.
