maddy

Running a proper mail server used to mean stitching together half a dozen daemons; maddy folds the whole stack into one binary with one configuration file. It receives mail as your MX, sends as your MTA, stores messages for IMAP clients, and signs and verifies with DKIM, SPF, DMARC, DANE, and MTA-STS so other servers actually trust what you send. The design is composable: checks, modifiers, tables, and delivery targets snap together in the config, so spam scoring, address rewriting, and routing rules read like a pipeline instead of a pile of interlocking config files. Outbound mail queues with retries and backoff, inbound delivery lands in IMAP storage backed by SQLite or PostgreSQL, and a built-in ACME client keeps TLS certificates renewed, including DNS-01 providers. Milter support lets existing filters join the pipeline, authentication spans SASL mechanisms and Dovecot delegation, and Prometheus metrics watch queue length and delivery health from your usual dashboards. Running on a dedicated VPS on RepoCloud with guaranteed CPU, RAM, and SSD, full root SSH access, and a browser serial console. GPL-3.0 licensed.

maddy

Benefits

  • One daemon replaces five
  • maddy folds MTA, MX, IMAP, DKIM, SPF, and DMARC into a single binary with uniform configuration, retiring the Postfix, Dovecot, OpenDKIM, and OpenDMARC patchwork and its maintenance cost.
  • Deliverability protocols built in
  • DKIM signing, SPF and DMARC checks, DANE, and MTA-STS ship inside the daemon, so mail you send is authenticated the way receiving servers now demand.
  • Pipelines instead of patchwork configs
  • Composable checks, modifiers, tables, and targets assemble in one config file, making spam policy, rewriting, and routing readable as a single flow rather than five interacting formats.
  • Certificates renew themselves
  • A built-in ACME client, including DNS-01 providers, provisions and renews TLS certificates for SMTP and IMAP endpoints, removing the certbot cron jobs mail servers usually accumulate.

Features

  • SMTP sending and receiving
  • maddy works as both MTA and MX, queueing outbound mail with retries while accepting, checking, and delivering inbound messages to local storage.
  • IMAP storage backends
  • Mailboxes live in IMAP storage backed by SQLite or PostgreSQL through go-imap-sql, with SASL authentication and support for Dovecot delegation when preferred.
  • DKIM, DMARC, DANE included
  • Signing and verification for DKIM, SPF, DMARC, DANE, and MTA-STS are native modules, configurable in the same pipeline as delivery and filtering.
  • Composable module pipelines
  • Checks, modifiers, tables, and targets compose into processing pipelines, covering spam scoring, header rewriting, address mapping, and multi-route delivery from one configuration file.
  • ACME and PROXY support
  • The built-in ACME client automates certificates over HTTP and DNS challenges, and HAProxy PROXY protocol support lets maddy sit behind load balancers cleanly.
