evcc

evcc turns surplus rooftop solar and the cheapest hours of a dynamic tariff into cheap, clean kilometers by coordinating an EV charger, heat pump, and home battery from one local dashboard. Each charging point offers Off, Smart, and Fast modes. In Smart mode, charging starts once the surplus covers the car's minimum power, follows the sun up and down, pauses when clouds win, and can switch between one and three phases on wallboxes that allow it. A solar share slider lets small systems start earlier, and Always charge keeps fussy cars from being interrupted. Set a departure time and a target charge, and a charging plan picks the cheapest or cleanest hours before it, repeating weekly if you like. Tibber, Awattar, fixed and time-based rates, dynamic feed-in prices, and CO2 and solar forecasts all feed those decisions. A home battery can claim the surplus first or lend a boost for fast charging, and load management keeps several chargers inside a circuit's current limit while honoring grid operator dimming. Hundreds of wallboxes, inverters, meters, heat pumps, and vehicle APIs are supported, including Tesla, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Skoda, and Volkswagen. Sessions land in a history with charts and CSV export, and REST, MQTT, InfluxDB, Grafana, Home Assistant, and openHAB link evcc to the rest of the house. Running on a dedicated VPS on RepoCloud with guaranteed CPU, RAM, and SSD, full root SSH access, and a browser serial console. MIT licensed.

Benefits

  • Charge From Your Own Sunshine
  • Smart mode follows solar surplus in real time, starting, pausing, and adjusting charging power so the car drinks rooftop energy first and pulls as little as possible from the grid.
  • Cheapest Hours Picked Automatically
  • With a dynamic tariff or CO2 forecast, set a price or emissions limit or a departure time, and evcc schedules grid charging into the cheapest or cleanest hours on its own.
  • Local Control Without Cloud Lock-In
  • evcc is built for local energy management without relying on cloud services, keeping charging decisions and energy data on your own server, with optional remote access and an official iOS and Android app.
  • Works With Hundreds of Devices
  • Wallboxes, inverters, batteries, meters, heat pumps, and vehicle APIs from Tesla, BMW, and Volkswagen plug in through ready-made templates, while HTTP, MQTT, and Modbus plugins cover anything unlisted.

Features

  • Smart, Fast, and Off Modes
  • Each charging point switches between Off, Smart, and Fast; Smart combines solar surplus, cheap grid hours, priorities, and charging plans, while Fast charges at full power immediately.
  • Charging Plans and Limits
  • Set a departure time and target charge for evcc to pick the best hours, repeat plans weekly, and apply a minimum charge and an upper limit such as 80%.
  • Home Battery Coordination
  • Choose whether the battery or the car gets the surplus first, use battery boost for fast charging from storage, and review battery behavior on a dedicated page.
  • Load Management and Grid Limits
  • Group charging points into circuits with a maximum current or power so several chargers never overload the installation, and dim automatically on grid operator signals under § 14a EnWG.
  • Session History and Statistics
  • Browse charging history with charts, solar share, and savings statistics, open the details of any session, and export the history to CSV.
  • APIs and Smart Home Integrations
  • REST and MQTT APIs, InfluxDB and Grafana logging, Home Assistant and openHAB add-ons, and push messages via Telegram or Pushover connect evcc to the rest of the smart home.
