Gitea Mirror
Gitea Mirror is an automated Git repository synchronization platform that mirrors your personal, starred, and organizational GitHub repositories directly to a self-hosted Gitea or Forgejo server. Through the web dashboard, you can connect standard GitHub accounts or GitHub Enterprise environments, discover newly created repositories automatically, and schedule recurring background sync intervals so your self-hosted forge always holds an up-to-date backup. Beyond raw Git commits and branches, the application transfers full repository metadata including issues, pull requests, labels, milestones, releases with attached assets, and project wikis. Teams managing large binary assets such as machine learning weights, media files, or game textures can enable Git LFS mirroring to replicate large objects alongside source code. Organization administrators can map entire GitHub organizations to custom destination namespaces, apply configurable fork handling strategies, preserve source visibility settings, and mark specific repositories to ignore. Built-in force-push protection detects destructive upstream history rewrites and offers backup-on-demand or block-and-approve workflows, while automatic cleanup rules prune deleted upstream repositories and expired activity logs. Access to the management console is secured with local accounts, reverse-proxy header authentication, or external SAML 2.0 and OpenID Connect identity providers. Running on a dedicated VPS on RepoCloud with guaranteed CPU, RAM, and SSD, full root SSH access, and a browser serial console. AGPL-3.0 licensed.
Benefits
- Automated Multi-Scope GitHub Repository Backup
- Continuously synchronize public, private, and starred repositories plus entire GitHub organizations to your private Gitea or Forgejo instance using configurable cron-style intervals and automatic new-repository discovery.
- Complete Metadata and Git LFS Replication
- Preserve full project context beyond Git commits by mirroring issues, pull request discussions, labels, milestones, wikis, release assets, and Git Large File Storage binary objects.
- Granular Organization and Fork Mapping
- Route mirrored organizations to custom destination namespaces, preserve source repository visibility states, prefix copied topics, and select whether forks are skipped, referenced, or cloned in full.
- Enterprise Authentication and History Protection
- Protect your backup control plane with OIDC, SAML 2.0, or reverse-proxy header authentication while guarding mirrored repositories against destructive upstream force-pushes with block-and-approve safeguards.
Features
- Scheduled Auto-Discovery Engine
- Polls GitHub REST APIs and GitHub Enterprise endpoints on custom intervals to import newly created repositories and trigger Gitea or Forgejo mirror updates.
- Issue and Release Mirroring
- Migrates GitHub issues, comments, pull request threads, labels, milestones, wiki pages, and release binaries directly into target Gitea or Forgejo repositories.
- Git LFS Object Sync
- Replicates Git Large File Storage pointers and binary blobs to LFS-enabled Gitea and Forgejo servers using Git 2.1.2+ transport protocols.
- OIDC and SAML SSO
- Integrates Better Auth with PKCE-enabled OpenID Connect auto-discovery, SAML 2.0 identity providers, domain-scoped account linking, and reverse-proxy forward authentication headers.
- Force-Push Detection Guard
- Monitors upstream branch histories for non-fast-forward updates and executes configurable backup-on-demand snapshots or manual approval gates before overwriting mirrors.
- Real-Time Activity Log Console
- Streams live synchronization job statuses, repository mirror queues, error diagnostics, and automated SQLite log retention cleanups in a responsive web interface.
